ForModule 2’s Forum activity, we will use a tool called VoiceThread (Links to an external site.) to create a collaborative, multimedia slideshow about the humanities in and around Newark. To understand the tool and access and overview of how to use it, review the instructions linked above or review the
video instructions (Links to an external site.)
about this assignment. Once you understand how to add to the voice thread and have prepared some content, you can log in to our
Newark Arts and Stories VoiceThread
. Note that you may be prompted to enter your NJIT emailfirst.
Instructions:
Select content from the website (SEE BELOW FOR OPTIONS) that you find interesting and relevant to our discussion of global cities. Tell us: what is this content? Why did you select it? How, in your view, does it connect to either a) some of the indicators of the global city (movement, mobility, migration, multicultural presence, opportunity), OR b) some of the themes emerging through our readings (identity, sense of place, struggle, family and familiarity, dis/connection)?
OPTION 1
In Week 1 of Module 2, you were introduced to the Newest Americans, a project organized by the Center for Migration and The Global City at Rutgers-Newark.
The website (Links to an external site.)
is a collection of stories, creative writing, digital art, maps, historical data, and images that “honor the past, present, and future of our migrating identities”.
OPTION 2
The Newark Museum of Art has several collections of American and Global art that are relevant to our coursework. You can go on a
virtual tour of two American Art collections through the Newark Museum Website (Links to an external site.)
. Remember to capture a clear image of the art you’d like to include in your VoiceThread if you choose this option!
