Gas Prices in the United States

Since many people will be traveling on vacation this summer, I was interested in the gas prices across the United Stated. I found the average gas prices for every state from the AAA website. The following report provides an analysis of the gas prices across the nation on July 6, 2020.

Measures of Center and Dispersion. As seen in Table 1 below, the average national price is $2.21, which is slightly higher than the median, $2.12, and the mode, $2.11. Since the mean is the highest, this indicated that the data is skewed right, as seen in Figure 1. The maximum of $3.20 was in Hawaii, while the minimum of $1.82 was in Mississippi. This yields a range of $1.38. In addition, the standard deviation was $0.30.

Histogram. The frequency table shows that 24 out of 50 states, or 48%, have gas prices of $2.11 or less. Only 2 out of 50 states, or 4%, have gas prices greater than $3.01, namely, California and Hawaii.
