SP 341. Dominican Republic: Literature, Music & Arts

This semester we studied two styles of music from the Dominican Republic, Merengue and Bachata. How are their histories and trajectories similar and how are they different?
In your paper, please make sure to:
· Include outside sources in addition to the readings we have already done in class. Please remember to cite material even if it is material from class. At least

additional outside sources is fine.
· Acceptable outside sources include books and journal articles from peer-reviewed journals. Do not use Wikipedia, blogs, or any nonacademic websites. Newspaper articles are acceptable sources. Please consult with the professor if you are unsure as to whether a source is academic or not.
· Make specific reference to particular artists.
· Write in a cohesive and logical essay format, meaning proper introduction, thesis statement, body and conclusion.
· Submit Word document via e-mail using the following format:
· 5 pages (4 and a half pages are not 5 pages, reference page is not counted as one of the pages)

· 25% Provides a logical interpretation, doesn’t merely repeat what they read. This paper is not a summary of what you have learned.
· 15% Provides sources that are pertinent

VIOLATIONS OF ACADEMIC INTEGRITY

Cheating

Fabricating
Inventing data or other information to reach a desired conclusion.
Plagiarism
The unacknowledged, undocumented presentation of words or ideas which are the intellectual property of another as one’s own.
1. Direct quotation, that is, even a few of the exact words of a source, must be indicated by the use of quotation marks or indentation of the text and be properly documented.
2. Passages which parallel the thought or expression of the source, even without using the same words, must be properly documented.
Multiple Submission
Assignments, substantially the same as those submitted for credit in another course, may not be resubmitted in a second course without the explicit authorization of that instructor.
