Your mid term will consist of 3 types of questions:
Essay- This will be based on the chapter homework questions. There are
themes prevalent in many of the homework questions that you will be asked to
synthesize such as the incorporation of animals or the representations of gender. You
will be given one essay question around a broad theme which you should discuss with
the art of the different cultures and time periods of this unit (Chapters 1-7 of the
book) 50 points.
Comparisons. Art history is about being able to compare and contrast monuments
and images. There will be two comparison essays worth 25 points each. Each
comparison will contain 2 or 3 of the images that we have covered in the chapter
images and you will need to write a compare and contrast response. I have placed a
discussion area titled Comparison Essay Practice so that you can practice and discuss
ideas of how you might answer a question like this if it was on the exam. 25 points
each (50 points total)
Short Answer. This section will be a series of 5 short answer question that will deal
with more fact based aspects of the course and will be based on the material below
on this review sheet. 10 points each (50 Points total)
The below list of terms will be beneficial for in at least two ways. First, the short
answer section may directly reference some of these terms. Second, proper use of
these terms in other parts of the exam and in your writing assignment will positively
affect your grade.

Final Term guide and Study
Sheet
Your Final will consist of 4 types of questions:
Essay- This will be based on the chapter homework questions and will be very
similar to the midterm. You will be given one essay question around a broad
theme which you should discuss with the art of the different cultures and time
periods of this unit (Chapters 8-13 of the book) 50 points.
Comparisons. Similar to last exam, there will be one comparison essays
worth 25 points. (25 points total)
Short Answer. This section will be a series of short answer question that will
deal with more fact based aspects of the course and will be based on the
material below on this review sheet. (25 Points total)
UNKNOWN SLIDE- I will pick an artwork that relates to chapters 8-13 that we
have not covered in class. You will write a 50 point essay that places the
unknown work of art into its context. I will provide you all of the info that you
would find on a museum object label including: the artist’s name (when
known), the title of the image, and any other information that would appear at
a museum. You should think about the work of art and be able to relate it to
other works we have covered throughout the course, including the first 7
chapters. How does it relate to art of its time period and other works from that
culture and time period? (50 Points)
The below list of terms will be beneficial for in at least two ways. First, the
short answer section may directly reference some of these terms. Second,
proper use of these terms in other parts of the exam and in your writing
assignment will positively affect your grade.
