Racial and ethnic categories are used widely in the United States by state and local governments and other organizations to assess how these groups fare on a number of social indicators. Whether “race” or “ethnicity” are appropriate classifications is a hotly contested topic. You will visit two web sites that are concerned with how the Census Bureau classifies race and ethnicity.
1)Go to this site: https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2020/02/25/the-changing-categories-the-u-s-has-used-to-measure-race/. You will find a report that will explain the changes in the way race and ethnicity were collected in the 2000 census. This new designation allows individuals to report themselves as being members of multiple racial and ethnic categories.
2) go to:
https://www.equityinhighered.org/resources/ideas-a…
In this site, the author critiques the use of racial categories.
You will need to answer the following questions and submit in a word document:
1) What are the measurement issues here? Use examples from the websites.
2) What is at stake?
3) Should the Census Bureau reconsider the way it counts race and ethnicity for the next census? If so, why? If not, why not?
4) In your opinion, describe how the concepts of race and ethnicity be measured, or if you think the should be measures at all.
Be thorough in your answers for full credit.
3312: Now that you would have your potential “5” people/places in your sample size from the population, you would ideally go out and start the interview process. How would you dress? How can dress affect your interview and the answers you receive? What is interviewer effect? Give an example of research when you may want to dress professional and a research scenario of when you may want to dress very casual?
