Effective communication skills in the human service field are essential because they offer several advantages such as building trust, better and positive relationships, increased job satisfaction, and problem-solving. Other advantages of effective communication skills include easy handling of conflicts, team building, increased productivity, and engagement. Effective communication builds trust because people are able to listen to each other, discuss their opinions and embrace conversation, which demonstrates to others that one wants to make the best decisions for their group or team (Hargie, Dickson, & Tourish, 2017). It can also build trust between employees and the management as they accomplish tasks, deliver ideas and opinions, and set goals. Effective communication in a team promotes a more positive working environment for the staff, which makes everyone freely share their concerns in the field. Employees who feel trusted and work with other people who also practice effective communication at the workplace are more likely to experience increased job satisfaction (Alyammahi et al., 2020). The staff will be engaged in their roles and have a great understanding of their roles and responsibilities.
