APA style rules and format are how most research papers are written in the realm of criminal justice here at APUS, I would say that all of my classes required the use of this format aside from a couple of history classes that allowed Chicago Style formatting as an optional way of writing a research paper. General APA style rules and formatting include an essay that is double-spaced, in Times New Roman Font, with borders measuring 8.5” x 11” with 1-inch margins. It must include a running head and page numbers staring after the title page. An essay should have 4 main sections, the title page, abstract, main body, and a reference page.
One question that I have about writing a research paper is when is it appropriate to include an annotated bibliography vs. using a reference list when submitting a paper? I understand both are useful to the reader to read the information that was gathered and form their own opinion, but does that not defeat the purpose of an annotated bibliography if you tell them your point of view before they form their own? I look forward to hearing your answers.
