For this week’s discussion, I chose to read the bibliography or Edgar Alan Poe. On January19, 1809, Edgar Allan Poe was born in Boston, Massachusetts. His parents were both unsuccessful performers. His father abandoned him soon after he was born. His mother died when he was three years old. Edgar Allan Poe became a foster child as a result of this. Poe’s mother died at the age of 24 from tuberculosis. Poe’s memories of his mother were of when she died in a painful way on a straw mattress. His father was an alcoholic and an indigent actor. When his father died, Edgar was taken as a foster child into the care of John Allan. He was educated in Britain where he met his mother, Jane Standard, who became his mother. Edgar A. Poe enlisted in the US Army after high school under the alias Edgar A. Perry and at an erroneous age. He attended West Point from 1830 to 1831 after leaving the army. After then, Poe married his cousin and moved to Baltimore to live with his aunt.
Poe’s literary style may have developed as a result of his mother’s death, which tormented him for the rest of his life. “And likewise is it without question that the lips most fitted for such a topic are those of a grieving lover,” he says in his essay “Theory of Composition.” Poe penned these in honor of his mother, who died while he was a child.
Poe studied law at the University of Virginia. He was commissioned by Thomas Wyatt to write The Conchologist’s First Book. He hoped to garner both money and support for his magazine, the “Penn”.
During his year as editor of the Messenger, Poe produced 86 reviews, 6 poems, 4 articles, and 3 tales. Poe would subsequently lose his job at the Messenger as a result of his inability to manage his drinking. Poe became irritable and unreasonable as his alcoholism and mental illness worsened, resulting in outbursts of irrational wrath. They believe he died as a result of his drinking.
Because of his drinking problems, he was fired as editor of the Messenger, which led to his death. Despite his brief life, Poe’s work is timeless; he authored wonderful short stories, essays, and poems. People will read his work for a long time to come.
