For this week’s topic I’ll be discussing alcohol and its effects on the body. Consuming alcohol can have many adverse effects on your physical as well as mental well-being. Some short term effects consuming alcohol can have is nausea and vomiting and. Headaches in the morning are a side effect cause by dehydration from the consumption of excess alcohol, this is usually paired with more nausea and vomiting and sometimes diarrhea. The above mentioned side effects usually occur when you binge or overindulge is alcoholic beverages but that isn’t always the case. Consuming alcohol can also give you a sense of relaxation and lower your inhibitions which in the right settings would be a positive thing. Some other long term negative effects alcohol can have are insomnia, you also have a possibility of weakening you immune system making you susceptible to many illnesses. Additionally it may be harder to focus on work and other daily tasks as well as developing problems with memory. Excessive use of Alcohol can have devastating effects of you internal organs and proper function of your body. A severe alcohol related issues in regards to organs is the inflammation of the pancreas. The inflammation of the pancreas evolves into the condition known as pancreatitis. Pancreatitis can manifest itself as pain in the abdominal area, fever and chills as well nausea and vomiting. Pancreatitis can also escalate to cancer, extensive kidney damage and the development of diabetes. A more common and heard of negative effect of alcohol on the organs is liver damage. Long term use of alcohol in excess can increase your chances of developing liver disease. Liver disease effects the proper function of the liver and is a life threatening condition. When the liver is not able to function properly waste and toxins build up within the body. I could go on about that negative effects alcohol has on the human population but surprisingly there are benefits to have drinks in moderation; the key is to know the limits. Alcohol can have a positive effect on your sex life. Alcohol lowers you inhibitions making you more comfortable with the situation and surroundings. A drink before engaging in sexual activity may raise a man’s testosterone levels. On the other hand if you go overboard with drinks you lose the ability to have sex. A glass of wine or a cocktail drink can help balance your blood sugar lessening your chances of developing type 2 diabetes. That being said this is under the assumption that the person is handling their eating habits and lifestyle in a responsible manner. I myself am a recreational drinker limiting my drinking to the weekend’s most likely whatever night I choose to go out. Even limiting myself to those days I am not exempt to developing health issues. Drinking helps us relax and have a good time and I’m grateful for its existence but the cons heavily outweigh the pros.
