1) Rough Draft.
Instructions
Please choose one of the following topics and write a 3-5 page, typed and double-spaced paper arguing for or against a position. You must choose a side in your paper. Papers must include a cover page, 3-5 full pages of analysis, and a references page of all sources in APA style.
1. Argue whether to keep or toss partisan primaries in all states
2. Argue for or against ERA at this point in time
3. Select a passage from an assigned reading and discuss its significance or importance. Ensure your discussion: Includes the passage (include paragraph or page number of the quote); ) A description to put the quote in context (what is it in reference to?); Why the passage is important or significant in the study of political science; Whether you agree/disagree with the passage; Examples that support/disprove the passage; etc. Be sure to include references (from other sources) to support your discussion.
4. Compare and contrast two interest groups that have similar interests, but tactics, approach, etc. are different. Be sure to include in your discussion which group is more effective and why.
5. Explain why the Bureaucracy is or is not “The Real Government.”
6. Argue whether the Constitution should be considered a fixed text (originalists) or can constitutional law evolve in response to changing circumstances and values (living constitutionalist).
7. Argue whether either political parties or interest groups plays the bigger role in ensuring individual’s thoughts and opinions are considered during the democratic process.
8. Discuss whether the sovereignty of the state has been undermined or enhanced by globalization. In what ways have the activities of supranational agencies, economic agreements, and military alliances been responsible?

Rough drafts are works in progress but must contain all of the required elements of the final paper. Rough drafts must be in APA style and include all citations to date. Proper grammar and spelling are required.

Annotated Bibliography
Provide a list and brief description of at least two sources that you have identified for the paper. One of these must be a primary source document and One must be an academic journal article. These should be specific sources, not just places where you can find sources. The goal here is to see that you have dug in a bit and actually found something that pertains to the issue you will be researching. APA style is required.
3) Position Paper.
Please choose one of the following topics and write a 3-5 page, typed and double-spaced paper arguing for or against a position. You must choose a side in your paper. Papers must include a cover page, 3-5 full pages of analysis, and a references page of all sources in APA style. Submissions must be uploaded to the assignment folder. 1. Argue whether to keep or toss partisan primaries in all states Final Paper Your final paper should contain a title page, abstract page, 3-5 pages of content and a references page in APA style. Note that the references page included with the final paper is not annotated. Papers significantly shorter or longer than this will be penalized. Remember that all papers must contain an introductory paragraph which explains the topic and the argument the paper will make AND a concluding paragraph which wraps up the main points of the paper without introducing any new information. Proofread your paper carefully. I would suggest using a spell/grammar checker and/or asking a friend to read over your paper for you. Title pages should follow APA style. The abstract page should be the second page of your paper and should contain your single-spaced up to a half-page abstract. Your references page will be the last page(s) of your paper and should provide a list of all sources, alphabetized by authors’ last names. Papers must use a minimum of 5-6 sources, with a minimum of two primary sources and two academic journals. Do not use a paper submitted in another course and beware of copy/pasting from online sources, which can lead to plagiarism. Papers will be submitted to turnitin.com during the grading process.
