Lewin’s Theory of Change in Movement, Refreezing, And Unfreezing: Unfreezing normally happens in the case where one of the agents of change convinces the involved to change or at the time anxiety, concern, or guilt is elicited. These situations make the people need changing. Many people are afraid of unfreezing phase and therefore find themselves putting significant effort into those experiencing stress related to their conditions (Rockwell, 2015). The second phase in the planned change is the movement. In this phase, the agents of change plan, identify and implement strategies appropriately, not forgetting that restraining forces should not exceed the driving forces. Change is not a simple action, requiring a lot of time. Perceptions, attitudes, and values underlying human behavior need more time to be implemented. Refreezing is the last stage in the planned change. In this phase, the change agent cooperates with the person or object expected to change by integrating their status through stabilization of the system change.
Application Of Lewin’s Theory to Real Nursing Change Situation: Planned change involves deliberately applying the skills and knowledge as a nurse to bring the desired change. Leaders, managers, and healthcare providers should be equipped with change theories and apply them appropriately when the need arises for successful management and organization. Change initiatives should be implemented in nursing to advance the objectives and the goals of the institution. As discussed in the movement phase, driving forces should exceed the restraining forces (Rockwell, 2015). Forces that drive change may include advances in science, an aging population, rising costs, emerging technologies, and shortages in the workforce. I believe these forces should be implemented and adopted to provide better and quality care to patients.
