This individual component is the primary focus of the final project. For this component, students will identify a problem of personal interest, or a situation which could be improved, and use whatever creative problem solving tools or techniques they find most appropriate to come up with a proposed solution and action plan. The problem or situation can be of any type: social, humanitarian, political, financial, technical, organizational, etc. The deliverable for the individual component of the final project will consist of an paper describing and documenting the steps the student took to apply the CPS process and whatever CPS tools and techniques they found most relevant in developing their creative solution to the specified problem or to improving the selected situation. The individual paper will consist of a 1,500 word report describing the problem or situation, including why the problem or situation is important; the relevant facts about the problem or situation, with appropriate references reliable sources and materials; the goals and criteria to be met by the proposed solution to the problem or situation; the ideas developed and considered for addressing the problem or solution; the proposed solution; and the action plan for its implementation. The paper should include appendices documenting the CPS tools and techniques applied in developing the proposed solution. It must also include a brief, 500 word addendum, reflecting on lessons learned through the team component of the final project. The grade for the final paper will be based on the rubric appended below.
