NR 520: APPLIED THEORETICAL FOUNDATIONS, SCIENTIFIC INQUIRY, AND DECISION-MAKINGDUE 10/14/2022
Module 7 Assignment:
Learning Theory
PURPOSE
Master’s-prepared advanced practice nurses will have opportunities to lead change in different practice
settings, which require background knowledge on learning theories. Learning theories provide theoretical
and philosophical understanding on how individuals learn. In this assessment, students will create a
PowerPoint presentation that describes the importance of the professional practice issue identified in
module 3.
COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
Through this assignment, the student will address the following course learning outcomes.
•
CO 1 Integrate theory, quality science, and evidence-based findings to support advanced nursing
practice.
SUGGESTED DUE DATE
Final due date is Sunday, 11:59 p.m. MT at the end of Module 7.
TOTAL POINTS POSSIBLE: 200
ASSIGNMENT OVERVIEW
You have been asked to describe the importance of the professional practice issue identified in module 3.
Select a learning theory category (either behavioral or cognitive) to help support the development of the
educational presentation. Develop a PPT presentation that explains how you will create an educational
presentation that will meet the learning needs of your audience and address the stated objectives for the
presentation. Use Bloom’s taxonomy to develop appropriate objectives for the educational presentation.
1. Create a PowerPoint presentation to address the following.
• Identify a learning theory category—behavioral or cognitive. Describe the main assumptions
of the selected learning theory.
• Present three learning objectives for the educational presentation on the importance of the
professional practice issue. Develop one objective for each learning domain (cognitive,
psychomotor, and affective). Use the appropriate taxonomy when developing the learning
objectives (e.g., if the audience is not familiar with the topic, lower-level taxonomy would be
appropriate. If the audience is has experience with the topic, higher-level taxonomy may be
appropriate). Discuss why the specific learning objectives were developed.
• Create three active learning activities that will be included in the educational presentation
to help keep your audience engaged. The learning activity should help meet the learning
objectives of the topic. Describe each active learning activity and how it aligns with the

selected learning theory (behavioral or cognitive). Explain what type of learning style the
activity best addresses.
Identify how you will evaluate learning (e.g., quizzes, surveys, observation, self-report).
Explain how the selected evaluation will demonstrate how each learning objective was met.
Provide a conclusion. Include a summary on the selected learning theory category. Describe
the relationship among learning theory, objectives, activities, and evaluation.
ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
1. Abide by the Chamberlain College of Nursing Academic Integrity Policy.
2. Use Microsoft PowerPoint to create the presentation.
3. Each slide (excluding title and reference slides) must include detailed speaker notes.
a. The purpose of the speaker notes is to expand upon the idea, and document facts and
information about the bulleted information points on the slide.
b. Formal, scholarly writing style with complete sentence and paragraph structure should be
used to create the speaker notes.
c. Scholarly literature support should be integrated within the speaker notes.
d. Speaker notes assure that all assignment expectations and key points are covered.
4. Within the speaker notes, the rules of grammar, spelling, word usage, punctuation, and sentence
and paragraph structure are followed and consistent with formal, scholarly writing as noted in the
APA Manual (current edition).
5. First person should not be used for this scholarly assignment.
6. Citation and referencing of sources must be congruent with guidelines noted in the APA Manual
(current edition).
7. Slides are professional in appearance with visually balanced text, font appropriate for audience
reading, succinct bulleted points, and visually appealing contrast between background and font
utilized. Correct spelling and appropriate use of graphics/images are evident.
8. Sources older than five years may not be used without the permission of the class instructor.
9. Please note: If you do not receive a proficient rating in any major content category, you can resubmit your assignment with revisions in those content categories to receive a better grade. You
have one additional opportunity to revise after the initial submission in order to make
improvements. The initial submission must be a complete paper; rough drafts will not be graded. All
revisions must be submitted no later than Sunday of Module 7 at 11:59 p.m. (You cannot revise your
graduate-level writing style for a higher grade in that category.)
