Select a Topic
Compose a comparative research paper that focuses on
one theme and uses evidence from two early civilizations.
Choose one of the following themes:
• conflict
I women
• Culture
Choose two civilizations as follows:
• For one of the civilizations, select either Classical
Greece (2100 BC-AD 500) or Rome (750 BC-AD
500).
· For the second civilization, select either India (350
BC-AD 600) or China (350 BC-AD 600).
Goal of Your Paper
The goal of your paper is to compare and contrast your selected civilizations based on your chosen
theme. The questions you address in your research will vary based on your theme, and on how you
focus your theme to analyze similarities and differences between the two civilizations.
General questions for examining your theme across your selected civilizations may include:
Conflict
What kinds of conflict can you identify?
What were the sources and impacts of conflict?
How was conflict addressed differently or similarly?
Women
What was the status of women compared to the status of men?
What roles did women play in society?
What was life like for women versus men?
Culture
What were the major cultural achievements ?
What was the position of the ruling power towards cultural progress?
How did religion impact cultural development?
Research Your Topic
After you decide on your approach to the topic,
start your research. Allow plenty of time to browse
through resources to get familiar with information
on your topic.

Final Paper: Requirements
• Your paper must be at least 900–1250 words in length
– This does not include the bibliography or works cited which
should be on a separate page.
• It should be broken into 5 paragraphs (introduction, three
body paragraphs, conclusion)
• Avoid spelling and grammar errors
• Use supporting evidence
• Credit your sources (in-text citations + bibliography or works
cited page)

• Your research paper should be constructed using a word
processing program, such as Microsoft Word or Google Docs
