2. Describe Neural Networks and Deep Learning. Describe how they are similar and different.
3. Describe the process by which these tools are used to diagnose, evaluate and treat cancer cells.
4. Create or Find an image that shows AI, ML, DL and NN in hierarchy (one image). Differentiate each and provide one example of each with images. Altogether 4 or 5 images!

P2 mHealth vs Patients Like Me
Patients Like Me (PLM) is a stellar example of how social media in healthcare can be helpful for
patients and be profitable. Same is true for the two other mHealth companies.
1. Define mobile health. Describe how Epidemico and Clue are similar and/or different than
PLM.
Mobile Health:
o Health care apps for individuals that are accessed through phones
(Innovatemedtec, n.d.).
Clue, Epidemico, & PLM all (Chloe Chen, 2014; Comstock, 2015; Wortham, 2016):
o Are forms of social media.
o For profit.
o Make lots of money.
o Affordable for users.
o Provide information.
Epidemico & PLM can provide GIS mapping (Comstock, 2015; PatientsLikeMeALS,
2009).
Clue (Wortham, 2016):
o Is an app.
o Centered on one specific health topic.
For tracking menstrual cycles & related symptoms.
o More Individualistic.
Epidemico (Comstock, 2015):
o Has multiple apps.
o Public Health social media apps.
o Compares data in various locations.
o Has apps to provide information on (Comstock, 2015):
How to react to fevers.
Drug side effects.
Black market process of prescription drugs.
o Looks at people who post online about selling or buying illegal drugs.
PLM (Chloe Chen, 2014):
o Is a website.
o More social media driven.
o About the connection.
o Helps people find others like to them.
2. Describe how PLM is an example of social media.
PLM:
o Online community for patients that are suffering (Chloe Chen, 2014).
o Allows patients to socialize with others with the same illness (Chloe Chen,
2014).
o Make a profile for yourself (Chloe Chen, 2014; PatientsLikeMeALS, 2009;
PatientsLikeMe Youtube, 2010):
Use unidentifiable username.
Sign up for your disease community.
Fill out information about disease and treatments.
Explain how wellbeing throughout the day & how quality of life has
changed.
Record hospitalization.
Get whole medical history.
Tracks symptoms.
Can get a dashboard of their health.
Monthly newsletters.
o Allows people to compare treatments (Chloe Chen, 2014).
Can see what everyone else is taking.
Can see how others are dealing with treatments and illness.
3. Describe the PLM business model. What customer needs does PLM meet?
PLM Business model (Chloe Chen, 2014):
o Patients do not pay.
o There are no advertisements.
o Sell members information to “partners.”
Including (Chloe Chen, 2014):
– Pharmaceutical companies
– Health care providers
– Universities
Needs PLM meets (Chloe Chen, 2014):
o Helps patients find answers to problems.
o Provides companionship and connections.
o Provides lots of information.
o Offers understanding.
4. How does each company – PLM, Epidemico and Clue – make money?
All collect data from large samples and turn it into money (Chloe Chen, 2014).
They sell their data to those who want it (Chloe Chen, 2014).
o Such as drug companies, researchers, etc.
o Sell information for off-label purposes.
