mainstream media

“Players who Kneel should leave the country” as said by Trump
Kaepernick was also on the cover of Time Magazine

After playing a above average sixth NFL season Kaepernick opted out of his 2017
contract. However he received no offers or serious interest from an NFL team.
In the 2017 free agency quarterbacks who had less on their resume and where being
hired.
One example of this is mike gellon signing a 18.5 million guaranteed contract.
Many believed that Kaepernick was being blackballed from the NFL
The question to the NFL teams was it’s players not allowed to peacefully protest issues
they believed in?
o And if they did and the owners did not agree would they be left unemployed?
This Lead to Kaepernick filing a grievance with the NFL for collusion.

The Players, specifically Kaepernick who lost his job due to standing up for what he
believes in.
This leads to the question if players stand up for something they believe in can an owner cut them
if they disagree?
Although Kaepernick was not cut he was, seemingly run out of the NFL
This also created a situation for players to be constantly asked questions about kneeling,
what they believe should be done, and other non football related issues they do not get to
choose if they want to be apart of.
Should the NFL be able to prevent players from protesting?

Should the NFL be allowed to suppress the voices of its athletes as a private organization?
Why did the NFL not have a more open dialogue with its players in 2016?
Did the players use the platform the most effective way?
What other options could they have used or paired with Kneeling?
Why did the protest lose sight on police brutality and racism, and becoem more focused
on the flag and disrespect?

We saw the NFL walk back its stance in 2016, to show more support for players.
o Although why did it take 4 years?
I believe that was not until the big push from the public after the 2020 BLM protest.
Along with the stance other leagues within america and around the world have supported
its players and their causes.
If more players talked about the issues and maybe used other methods to pair with
kneeling it could of helped keep the main idea of police brutality the forefront.
o Instead the protest was made more about disrespecting the flag and that was not the cause.
Overall I think that Kaepernick should of been apart of a NFL team sometime in the last 5
years, yet he is not and now I think his time has passed.
I think the NFL should try to work with Kaepernick on its diversity and community
development as
imunities.
