Monitoring Toddlers and Technology
Introduction
Toddlers, this is an age group of children that most of the people have engaged with, this is because at this age children are very active and friendly. At this age basically the child is about to join preschool, meaning that there is a lot mentoring therefore a need for similar monitoring. Whereby it is important, I personally do not have a toddler but most definitely I have been around a number of them in different time periods. From my experience there is one thing that I have learnt is that Technology is not a friend of children of this age group if it is not monitored.
Thesis statement: Should technology be monitored, specifically on how toddlers consume and based on the identified. Effects?
Technology and Dopamine
Naturally technology has ben designed to be addictive, which is something who owns a computer, a mobile phone, a television or any other access to technology can attest to. Well it is important to understand that such effects not only affect adults, but people of all ages. When something is addictive it means that excessive or uncontrolled consumption is harmful. Whereby it means that technology consumption in toddlers should be controlled. A few years ago, my cousin visited our family, being older me she already had her first son at the moment. A sit was a holiday at the moment I had chance to spend time with my “nephew.” While we spent time, I realized a pattern, the foulness that was in this toddler’s language, the child was using curse more than anyone I have never met, while at the same showing violent and antisocial behavior. Like wanting to be left along and slapping her mother at times while displaying profanity. I was concerned just as everyone in the family, since my cousin did not see that as a big deal. What followed is that my parents asked about such incidents and my cousin said that her husband watches movies and hear songs with their son, which are not child friendly. My cousin also talked about how her son was changing, he was antisocial, abusive, violent and spent a lot of time on the television. At that moment I just concluded that they should control what the child consumes, by I had not apprehended that it is the effect of technology on the Toddler.
Technology feeds individuals and in this case the toddlers with whatever information, especially if it is not monitored. That is why it is a concern for me to make sure that the toddlers actually consume content that is not harmful to them, like in my nephew’s case. Remember that this age is crucial because the children are developing therefore anything they see on the television or on video games it will automatically reflect on their lives. In the sense that violent content will definitely affect their behavior, the children will start having violent behaviors, will adapt to offensive language (Cursing) that is used in such content and use that in real life. This is likely to decrease the activeness of the children and it will make them glued to the tv or computer screen or on the mobile devices. Remerging that they need physical activity to have a better growth of bones and other psychological development is important that the amount of technology they consume is monitored so that it can create room for other aspects. But that is not the case as mentioned before technology is addictive in nature, and the parents may utilize this scenario to find some free time, to themselves.
Monitoring Technology
Lack of monitoring technology guarantees one thing, it guarantees opening up a new world of danger. Because toddlers do not have the capacity of differentiating what is harmful and what is not. The best they can do at the moment is to recreate or imitate what they have been exposed to; whereby the uncontrolled consumption of technology, that my nephew was exposed to, led to the poor development of social skills problems. My nephew prefers to be stuck on the screen, the whole day rather than going out to play and made new friends. Children need to meet, play understand different aspects, which is something has not understood that the exposure of my nephew to other social circles will help in his development. In retrospect she is proud that her son stays on the TV and other screens 8 to 10 hours which helps her to focus on other aspects. But that will not be the case if they actually don’t leave the house. My nephew might grow up being shy, have anger management issues, poor negotiation skills, poor social problem solving and conflict management. These are the impending dangers that might affect my nephew if he is actually addicted to the tv or video games. Therefore, I believe it is important to control the phenomenon while he is still young, as it is hard to control the poor social skills he might develop.
Concludingly, obesity might also knock on the door as the toddlers have the least amount of exercise, seating inform of the screens the whole and eating re the proper ingredients of obesity. Maybe helping the toddler engage in a sport at an early is a way to get their mind of technology and at the same time build their social skills. In addition to this the toddler might come up with learning development issues, as this age is very crucial as it is dedicated to them learning and understanding different aspects of life. Therefore, it is important to monitor technology consumption for toddlers just like nephew.
