TheDiscussion Assignment
This assignment allows for class discussion on the topics of this module. Through your class discussions
you are allowed the opportunity to share “real-world” examples with your classmates which help reinforce
the concepts being covered in the course materials. Many times hearing/reading about someone’s
personal experience with a concept makes it much easier to understand. It also provides material for
reference when you are applying this material in your future employment.
And also, many times when reading the text, most of us, myself included, miss relevant information.
Through the class discussion we can share our “interpretations” of what we have read and as the old
saying goes “two heads are better than one”.
Could Your Facebook Page Cost You a Job?
Employers are increasingly checking potential employees’ Facebook pages as part of a
background check. To read the article from NBC News entitled click Job Candidates Getting
Tripped Up By Facebook (opens in new window).

What is your opinion on this relatively new practice? Is it ethical? Is there anything on your
Facebook page you think you should change? What about the Facebook page of a friend or
family member? Do you know of anyone who could potentially have a problem if applying for a
job? What, if any, risks might the potential employer be taking when using social media to make
decisions in hiring processes?
Your initial post should be at least 150 words. Remember to respond to your classmates, adding
content or posing questions. Providing additional resources when responding to classmates is
one way to earn a perfect score.
Grading Criteria
You are to post your initial post by the designated due date as posted in the assignment summaries, then
respond to four of your classmates. Your initial post is worth up to 60 points of your grade, with your
responses to your classmates worth up to the remaining 40 points. To receive full credit your initial post
should be a well thought out response to the assignment and your responses should be well thought out.
Minimum answers such as “I agree”, “Good idea”, etc. are not considered constructive comments and will
not count as a post. To maximize your score you are required to interact with your classmates by
engaging in interactive conversation as we would in the classroom. This means if a classmate asks you a
question you are expected to respond and your response will be included in your four required responses.
