Which theoretical perspective/s described in Chapter 2 of the text most closely represents your current view of the ideal parent? Of parenting roles? Explain.
If parents had to obtain a license in order to have a child, what would you require for such a license? Why?
Note: Answer all components of the question. Support the ideas in your post with research findings from at least one recently published scholarly journal article. Week 2 Discussion
Must post first.
Parenting Styles
Compare and contrast Baumrind’s parenting styles (Chapter 4 in the textbook; Module 1 linked from Learning Unit 1). Can you suggest situations in which either the authoritarian or permissive style of parenting might be useful?
Which style of parenting was used by your parents or have you used with your children? How would you characterize your response to your parents’ style of parenting and discipline techniques — or how would you characterize your children’s response to your parenting style and discipline techniques?
Chapter 5 in the textbook included a discussion of variables or determinants that may influence parenting behavior/style. What do you think were the major influences on your parents’ parenting style or on your parenting style? Select two or three determinants. How did/do they interrelate? Does one seem more powerful than the others?
What are the implications of knowing and understanding influences on parenting style/behavior?
Cite and reference your sources of information.
