My final portfolio project will be a presentation. I enjoy work that allows for a creative flow, and
a presentation would allow me that freedom. Since the final is a personal communication
development plan, a presentation would allow me to best illustrate my plan and how that plan
will benefit my future communication.
notes
The foundation for leadership is communication, because it’s the key element in how leaders
achieve their goals. It is impossible to become a great leader until you are a great
communicator, because great communication inspires people to achieve great things, and poor
communication breaks down teams.
They create a connection with their followers that is real, emotional, and personal, regardless of
any physical distance between them. Great communicators forge this connection through an
understanding of people and an ability to speak directly to their needs
Great leaders not only have a clear and accurate image of their leadership style, but also of
their own strengths and weaknesses. To understand themselves, they must be self-aware,
which requires high emotional intelligence.
Great teams are devised of a group of people with set values, beliefs, goals, and aspirations.
The best leaders understand how to effectively amplify the strengths of their team, not
necessarily diminishing the weaknesses of the team, but amplifying the strengths of individual
team members to build a stronger team. Communication is the difference between the success
or downfall of a great team, because communication is the foundation for each and every
interaction throughout our lives. Leaders who cannot communicate effectively are ineffective at
leading. Leadership communication is not an idealistic rant in which no change occurs, but
rather inspires those within our charge to make the necessary changes for greatness.
Communication is the bridge that connects great ideas and great goals with the highest
potential for success.
The key is not to have MORE communication within a corporation, but rather effective, accurate
and timely information communicated
Often, it’s forgotten that employees are one of the largest stakeholders for the company.
Without staff, the company would inevitably cease to exist. Trust and corporation are two
required elements for employees to be successful within any institution. The real job of a leader
is not about being IN charge, but instead it’s about taking care of those in our charge.
Great leadership starts with empathy and strong internal perspective.
Empathy in leadership is the act of being concerned for the human being, not simply their
output. Performance issues happen, it’s inevitable, as we have our own human experience.
