Using the textbook, Topic Materials, and your own research, write a 100-250 word response to each question below. Cite the sources used for answering each question.
Object query language (OQL) was created by the object database management group (ODMG) and is based on structured query language (SQL). The languages are similar in many ways, but they feature some slight and some not so slight differences. Explain why ODMG created and developed OQL.
Discuss why developing standards is important for a database management system. Describe issues OODBMS systems face and explain how those issues have allowed RDBMS systems to thrive.
Explain the “4th Generation Standard.” Discuss how this standard will change the object-based environment. Describe features that will help or hinder its success.
Course Project Component
Part 1 (Week 3)
Objectives:
•
Perform basic statistical operations on a data set
Instructions:
•
•
•
Read in the data using code provided in announcements. Filter to your state. Use Excel or R to generate the
specified analysis table.
Create a 4-slide deck:
o Slide 1: Title Slide. This should include your name, your company name, the date, your client (your
assigned party), and a title for the deck
o Slide 2: Overview of your data: date range, source
o Slide 3: For 2016, create a table with the ten largest counties by total 2016 vote, identify the vote for
each party and the percentage of each. You can do this in Excel or R
o Slide 4: Select 3 counties that you recommend the party spend their marketing dollars. Justify why you
are recommending these counties (there is no real correct answer here)
The table for slide 3 should look like (except with the ten largest counties, not just 4):

Grading:
•
•
•
•
Slide Format (20%): Slides follow the format detailed above
Data Quality (30%): Data in table contains ten largest counties by vote, is in sorted order descending by total
votes, and is correctly formatted as above, including commas, percentages, and number of decimals.
Selection of 3 Counties (30%): Counties selected and have reasonable justification
Aesthetics (20%): PowerPoint presentation is appealing, consistent and void of spelling errors. See Course
Materials for help on creating an effective presentation.
Submit:
•
Simply submit the PowerPoint. If you used R code to create analysis, you do not need to submit for CPC #1. You
will need to submit R code for CPC #2 and #3.
