I have been in the position of the infancy stages of the internet and where we are today. The example I would like to present, is one of my first jobs many years ago delivering weight equipment. Now this was before internet was mainstream and wireless applications were most likley being drawn up in a room of dry-erase walls. Delivering product at this time had a process of taking down directions from the customers with cross-streets included. I was given this information and then the big maps came out with the attempt to plan my routes. Now we did not know any other way, so we performed our due dilligence to plan the best routes. Remember also there was not cell phones at this time so you brought a lot of coins to make phone calls. As you can imagine this was an inefficient way, and the business was not maximing profits. My boss at the time was consience of the new technology that big companies were adapting, called GPS. At this time the expense was just too much to justify purchasing these devices until a company called TomTom Inc produces a low cost GPS system. Finally, there was a affordable GPS and for those who remember this, it was a godsend for those who drove for employment. We implemented these devices and efficiany skyrocketed and production doubled. No more being lost and pulling out the big maps, or calling the customer to reiterate directions. It truly was a game changer. It used to be that certain businesses did not have any ineterest and did not know how to utilize the interent due to multiple factors. For example lack of knowledge, expense, or learning curve. For instance my family are builders and it took my father years to adapt technology into his daily routines. Now remember, this was 20 years ago so his additage was “I have been doing it this way for years, why change now”. I begin to show him the advantages of technology, and espeially the time saving applications which he began to implement slowly. Not long after, he realized the advantages of the interent and the wealth of information he can utlize. I have seen the construction industry basically go from technolgically inept to cutting edge. The industry understands the value and realizes if they do not advance they will be left behind.

Choose a couple of ways how your life would be different without the Internet.
Life overall would be different without the Internet in all aspects of telecommunications period. Telecommunications in all forms and fashion has benefited from the use of the Internet, but was not like that prior to that, no matter the type of communication “word” got around slowly depending on the medium and device that was available back then without Internet. Life was less trouble with either good news or bad news because it didn’t travel as fast and far as it could with the Internet, it was dependent on other means to get information out, for example (newspaper, radio, mailed letters, etc.). Today my life would definitely be at a much slower pace no matter the activities and/or the involvements in social status that required the broadcastings of likes and dislikes on what the world has to offer. As an individual who likes to travel frequently the convenience of planning an entire trip from beginning to end and knowing all that is involved by being able to visualize all aspects ( flight, hotel, car, packages, etc ) would not even be an opinion. It would be planning blindly with the hope of it being all that it was said to be, whether word of mouth or by reading about it.
How would the business world be different?
Business would be different because it would be done at a different pace and daily operations would require much more emphasis on human interaction among each other, in ensuring proper correspondences in achieving an economic value at the end of the day. Being able to market rapidly and to the masses would be constricted to just the boarders surrounding the business overall. Expansion and future innovation would be slow coming as revenue without Internet would be minimal compared to e-commerce and wholesale merchandised and/or specialty products and services that involved the use of the Internet to promote fast production and at the same time increase consumption, eventually becoming reliant on the Internet. However the business world would be at the total opposite of the above mentioned with Internet.
Think of the job you have now, a job you’ve had previously, or the job you’d really like to have and discuss what you think the impact would be based on your understanding of equipment used to support Internet access such as switches and routers.
Without the Internet the use of devices like switches and routers, which are just a hand-full of all the equipment used to transport and enhance the speed of it would be useless towards anything telecommunication / networking period outside of the local network within any organization or ISP. Switches and routers play an important role in the distribution and back-and-forth relaying of two-way communication in the requesting of information by anyone. Whether individuals and/or organizations (small, medium or large) the use of this equipment to expand networks and make possible the world of IoT would be negated where the result would be settling for traditional methods of communication away from the use of these equipments made for the expansion of having the Internet around.
