Scenario: 68 yo Latino male who presents with recent diagnosis of metastatic renal carcinoma identified
at a recent ED visit. Patient recently moved and is living with his daughter, age 40. He has 2 other
children (1 daughter, age 42, 1 son, age 45), both located out of state. Patient’s past medical history
includes type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and GERD. When speaking to the patient he nods throughout
the conversation but does not respond to questions. The patient’s daughter is present and reports that
her siblings will be traveling to see their father soon. She acknowledges that things are somewhat tense
in the family as her brother is not happy that the patient recently moved to live with her. The patient’s
daughter reports that the patient has been somewhat distant and more argumentative lately. The below
information is gathered from patient’s past provider records.
