I have a final proposal due friday night and its about Michelle Obama and what she faced when she was in the white house and diffrent problems.
Proposal
The subject is Michelle Obama, former first lady of the United States from 2009 to
2017. She was born in the state of Illinois in a family of African Americans. She was born in a
middle-class family and raised her social status when obtaining degrees from the best
universities in America, Princeton and Harvard. After becoming a lawyer, she met her husband,
Barack who became the 44th president of the United States. They were the first black president
and First Lady in the American history. Beginning from university, Michelle took part in
organizations and campaigns which fight against minority discrimination in the United States.
Michelle Obama is a good subject for this project, as it is a unique case: she belongs to
the Black people community in America, while being one of the most important people in the
country. This context is perfect to study the discrimination African Americans face in the
current times and how social and financial status impact this type of discrimination.
The thesis of the paper is that people belonging to the Black community in America
face discrimination at all levels of the social hierarchy. This thesis is sustained by Michelle
Obama’s life, as she talks publicly often about the discrimination she faced as a child, then as
a student at a top university and then as the First Lady.
This is the memoir of Michelle Obama where she describes the most important aspects
of her life in a very personal manner. Here she talks about how when she was little, she was
thought by her mother that she had to work twice as hard because of her ethnic background.
When she arrived at Princeton, her roommate refused to share a room with her because of her
skin colour. She felt like an intruder as a black woman at a top university.
