Statesmanship according to the article by University of South Dakota, states what statesmanship consist of; “directing matters that promote public interest,” and “handling political affairs” (Newswander,2012). In other words, to be consumed with what affects the lives of the public and do so operating with a standard of morals and well-rounded knowledge of many complex situations. Within the context of public administration, this entails the many social needs that come about from legislation, and how to administer services, and programs in a manner that exuberates servant leadership. In the biblical context, this follows the examples that are set before by Jesus Christ. One of those examples is found in Mark 10:45, “For the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve; and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Holy Bible, NIV). Jesus not only verbally explained the expectation, but demonstrated the expectation as a servant leader.
Within Public administration, the members that serve in this capacity work effectively when working under the same standard of a biblical perspective. Aside from the biblical concept to statesmanship, constitutionally, there are factors that create an administration of government that works to meet the needs of citizens in a “responsible, efficient, effective, ethical, legal, and constitutional way” (Newbold, 2010). In order for an administration to be operating constitutionally, is to provide protection of an individual’s rights, balance the powers and responsibilities of the federal government, and demonstrate a representation of the people within congress (Newbold, 2011). To be a statesman, is to project these principles, and work to ensure the public receives that promises made by the branches of government. These individuals serving in this capacity are to process functions in a constitutional manner that reflect a moral commitment to values, beliefs, and interest which is the most vital method to staying true to constitution within the administration (Newswander,2012). The democracy characteristic at hand within what it defines to be a statesman is to run an efficient government that serves the people, by the people who hold to true in pushing forth the policies that serve the country. A successful administration is one that is a reflection of the people it represents, although not always popular to the masses, but is sensitive to the demand.
