Source Type: News Article Focus: Paraphrasing and quotation Part I: Find a news article from a bi-partisan source that was published in 2020 and an article from a left or right leaning source that discusses the same topic. To help identify these news sources, you may want to look at the “Media Bias Chart” (CR 44). Cite each source in MLA (TEW or Purdue OWL can help). Part II: This part exclusively involves your bi-partisan article. Aim for ~50 words per section: · Kairos/Date: How relevant is the article? When was it published in relation to the events it discusses? · Authority: How does the author assure the reader that the information is accurate? If needed, click through any links, look up citations, or verify important facts. What about their biographical information: do their credentials make them an authority on the subject? · Bias: How does the author demonstrate their bi-partisan stance? Are they successful, or do biases still appear? · Context: Examine the website in which the article was published. Is it credible? How does it assure the reader that the content is well-researched? What sort of sources does it use? Part III: This part exclusively involves your left/right leaning article. Aim for ~50 words per section: · Kairos/Date: How relevant is the article? When was it published in relation to the events it discusses? · Bias: What in the article implies that it is left or right leaning, politically? Does this bias hurt the article’s credibility? · Context: Examine the website in which the article was published. Is it credible? How does it assure the reader that the content is well-researched? What sort of sources does it use? Part IV: Finally, in ~150 words reflect on what you learn about the topic being discussed by looking at multiple sources. Do you favor one source over the other?
