BERTHA’S POST:
Greetings, Everyone
For this discussion, I chose Mental Illness as my topic. While locating resources and exploring the google search engine on the internet. I was able to explore sites providing many subject matters relating to Mental Illness programs. Several examples, there are different types of Mental illness in different states; they have Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities, Adult Mental Health Divisions, Mental Health resources online, and local Mental Health resources near me; also, Substance abuse and Mental Health. Numerous numbers of resources, programs, and all types of information about Mental Illness I typed in the query of the google search engine.
As I was able to locate the information on my subject, I went to treatment centers, counseling, family matters, family genetics, how to understand mental illness, and other clinical services that are available. The North Carolina Division of Health and Human Services has extensive programs, services, and how to qualify for state disability for having a mental illness. This information identified the types of mental illnesses, how this condition affects the person’s mind, emotional stability, and active daily living. You have helping professionals who work with mental illness patients and or clients who document their counseling sessions or helping professionals who observe patients in house centers or hospitals all day of what they observed. Other sites covered details of how they can assist someone whom you may know has a mental illness. The focus was on experimental research, but the exploration was techniques that would be applied to human service practices. Nevertheless, the gravity about locating resources acknowledges as part of the qualitative method to the exploratory nature of the research (Monette, Sullivan & DeJong, 2017).

SHAWNTOBIA’S POST:
For this discussion I chose to research alcoholism. Alcoholism is a chronic disease that can lead to illness and/or death. In order to overcome its addiction, Health and Human Services professionals must help their clients work towards a plan to recovery which may include an intensive amount of counseling and treatment. Locating information and resources on alcoholism can be accomplished by way of the internet. When using an internet search engine, it is always a good idea to check out the “Help Page” for tips on refining your search. Also, once you locate one promising source, look for its own key terms. By substituting them in your search, you may locate additional sites (Monette, Sullivan & DeJong, 2017). On Google, my search of “Health and Human Services and programs dealing with alcoholism” returned thousands of results that can be utilized by those affected by the disease. It was comprised of websites, articles, and handbooks. The website I reviewed was titled “Resources for Alcoholism Treatment Recovery Programs-Alcohol.org”. I like this site because it is designed to meet the needs of individuals suffering from and/or affected by alcoholism. It contained three subtitles with a total of 18 headings that each included a link that displayed organizations and programs. The links provided information and resources such as Medicaid that can cover some levels of alcohol abuse, chatrooms, organizations like the Salvation Army that focus on parents struggling with substance abuse (Monico, 2019), and institutions who offer counseling, support groups, and treatment. Some of the links provided information and resources that catered to individual needs, such as age groups, gender, and treatment available in specific locations. I chose to further evaluate one of the headings named the “National Institutes of Health” which allowed me to search the site for information and resources related to alcoholism. Additionally, this site afforded me the opportunity to conduct new research on various other topics relating to one’s health and wellbeing. My research on this topic has revealed that these websites are keen on disseminating invaluable information for anyone whose goal is sobriety or to improve their quality of life overall.

EXAMPLE OF RESPONSE:
Hi Rosie,
You chose an interesting topic that I rarely hear about since I don’t know of anyone who has or is dealing with a gambling issue. Nonetheless, it’s research and care towards the addiction is equally important. When a Health and Human Service Professional is given a problem to solve, we must first find the cause of the problem, such as a potential mental illness as you discussed. Your post is uncovered many resources that are available for gambling and mental illness if that is an underlying issue. In my opinion, people are more inclined to seek help when they have made the personal decision to do so. I think this applies to many of the issues that individuals are trying to overcome. What are your thoughts?
