I need help writing one and a half to two pages for a paper. I need it to one example of sexual misconduct (rape, sexual harassment, etc.) with an athlete (preferably the Kobe Bryant case) and an example of drug abuse in with an athlete (any case is fine so long as it provides the right content). These paragraphs need first-hand sources and a work cited page in APA style. Attached is the intro that I wrote to introduce the issue.
In today’s society the correlation between athletes, sexual misconduct, and drug use has increased tremendously affecting athletes everyday lives. Frinter and Rubinson (1993) found that while sports team members make up less than 2 per cent of campus population, they comprise 20.2 per cent of the men involved in sexual assault or attempted sexual assualt. Some believe that the increase for sexual misconduct is due to large numbers of testerone while others believe outside factors play a role. According to Benedict and Melnick , they believed that, “ There are further factors specific to or concentrated in professional sport which have been hypothesized to increase male players’ risks of perpetrating sexual assault. These risk factors include: Male bonding, Aggressive sport, Sexualisation and subordination of women, Celebrity status and entitlements, Drug abuse, and ‘Groupie’ culture.”(Benedict 1998; Melnick 1992). The increasing correlation between athletes and sexual misconduct has taken a toll on those athletes lives and how people perceive them especially male athletes. In a recent American study among 704 male and female university athletes, rape myth acceptance was highest among male atheltes, especially younger athletes and those playing a team-based sport (football or basketball) rather than an individual sport (such as tennis, golf, swimming, or track and field) (Sawyer et al. 2002). It is safe to say that males that participate in team-based sports are more likely to be a part of sexual misconduct rather than individual sport. The correlation between athletes and drug use has increased in recent years . Athletes are using all types of drugs from steroids/performance enhancing drugs (Anabolic steroid) to painkillers (Oxycodone such as OxyContin or Percocet) and illegal drugs (marijuanna and methamphetamine). Effects of these drugs ranges from severe acne, liver abnormalities and tumors, aggressive behaviors, rage or violence, suicide and even death (“Performance-enhancing drugs,” 2019).
