This short paper is intended to allow you to synthesize your ideas regarding career theories and put forth your current way of theoretically conceptualizing client career issues. Describe your theoretical orientation for career counseling. What specific established career theory or theories do you support? Why? How will this help clients? Be specific about what attracts you to a given theory or set of theories, and in this way demonstrate your knowledge of the career theory. It is expected that you will demonstrate conceptual complexity and sophistication in your discussion of the career theory(ies). Be explicit about career interventions based on the theory. Make sure you demonstrate your knowledge of how those interventions relate to theoretical concepts. Throughout your paper, please be comprehensive about describing the theory and theoretically-based interventions. Points will be deducted if an important piece of the theory is not addressed, either in discussion of the theory or the interventions (e.g., if you discuss SCCT, and do not address self-efficacy, or the 4 ways that self-efficacy can be utilized in your interventions). If there is a part of a theory that does not fit with your theoretical orientation, please mention it and explain why it does not fit for you and/or why it is not salient to your work with clients. Focus on integrating your ideas and presenting your arguments about your theoretical orientation in a logical, clear, and coherent manner. Be specific and precise in your writing. The paper should be no shorter than 4 pages of text and no longer than 6 pages of text. NO ABSTRACT REQUIRED.
