This week we are going to use a form of media to focus on deviance and how it affects society.
You will explore how deviance is defined in our society by culture and group dynamics.
Take a minute and think about some of the media outlets that you watch as it relates to Deviance and deviant behavior, whether negative or positive deviance. Then proceed to watch a 30-60 minute sitcom, an hour drama, movie, or a documentary and answer the following questions.
(Examples: CSI, Law and Order, Family Guy, Modern Family, YOU, Witcher, Gracie and Frankie, Chicago Fire, How to get away with murder, Watchman, etc:).
· Describe in a short summary the name of your show and the premise of the show (what is it about)
· Identify the deviance or deviant behavior that you observed. Give examples with details and explain why this is consider deviant behavior?
· What theoretical perspective would you apply to the deviant behavior and why?
Remember, if it’s not your original idea, you must cite it! For more information visit the KSU library resources. You may NOT use Wikipedia for your sources. You MUST use academic journals or textbooks. Reminder that you are a watching this show from a Sociological point of view. Take notes, identify patterns and ENJOY!
