Proposal
I’m going to compare Emerson’s “Self-Reliance” and Whitman’s “Song of Myself”, as these two works vividly raise the topic of common understanding of self-reliance by expressing similar ideas. The purpose of comparing these works is to find a common concept of what self-reliance is for each of these authors, finding certain relationship between two works and main features that distinguish Emerson’s self-reliance from Whitman’s. I hope to learn about their personal interpretation of self-reliance and how different it is from what we call self-reliance in the modern world. A sufficient number of authors compare these two works, however, most of the time they are analyzed separately, but I found a couple of good scientific articles that will help me in my further writing.
