This is a
HANDS ON
assignment that includes a written section. You can either put the writing and hands on image on the same document or upload them separately. Either way is fine.
WRITING:
Write a three paragraph proposal for a new piece of public art for your neighborhood. Your proposal should include:
– purpose of the art project (how does this benefit your community? Is it inspirational? Educational? Why do you think it would be important to have this project in your community? This part is like a sales pitch. Why should we make it?)
– subject of the art project (Describe it. What is it about? Is the subject specific to the culture or history of your neighborhood? Is it decorative or symbolic?)
– medium of the art project (Is it a mural, a sculpture, land art, performance art, etc. How is it made?)
HANDS ON
Create a small model of the proposed project and take a photo of your model. Either upload the photo of your model into the assignment or include it in your written section document. Either way is fine.
You do not have to purchase anything to make your project model.
Use your imagination and use materials that you can find around the house.
Magazines and colored paper are great for collage. Your kids’ or siblings’ crayons are perfect. Do you want to use nail polish or makeup? Go for it. Think about readymade objects that could be included – string, aluminum foil, wire, photos, newspaper or magazine images, plants/flowers, etc. You can also create a digital image if you are more comfortable with that format.
This will not be graded on your technical artistic ability, so don’t get stressed about that. Use whatever medium works best for you, and just do your best to create a model of your vision for the public art project.
