Studies on learned helplessness often include reference to early concepts of internal and external locus of control. Through the lens of this framework, an individual with a perceived internal focus of control believes that personal behaviors, skills, and internal disposition are responsible for the experiences that he/she has in life. Contrastingly, an individual with a perceived external locus of control believes that outside factors and circumstances are more influential in determining his/her experiences (Rotter, 1966).
Next, respond to the following:
1. Are you more of an internal or external locus of control type of person? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each type?
2. How could you use this information to improve your stress management?
Be sure to incorporate at least 1 credible resource in addition to the etext to support your statements.
