To prepare to write your Final PICOT Presentation, you will need to select and upload any new keeper studies (if required by the instructor) into Blackboard under Assignments, complete the appropriate “Melnyk Critical Appraisal Tool” for each of your new keeper studies based on the research design of that study. Use your Evidence and Synthesis Tables as well as your Completed critical appraisal tools to expand on the synthesis section of your presentation- This is the foundation for your plan for change and provides the evidence to answer your PICOT question.
Description and Grading Rubric: PICOT Assignment-PowerPoint
The purpose of this assignment is to create a PowerPoint to present your proposal at your work site for a change to practice based on the evidence that you located. Within the notes section of the PowerPoint, you will identify your keeper studies along with the study design and major findings. You will also explain how the articles were appraised and synthesized based on the Evidence and Synthesis Tables, which you completed during Weeks 6-7. You will discuss how you compared the studies for similarities and differences, any noted inconsistencies, the connection to your PICOT, and how it answered your PICOT question. You are to explain how the literature supports your proposed change to practice and thoroughly describe your proposed implementation/action plan-what you are proposing, how you will implement it, what steps you will take, how you will evaluate the change, etc. You will also apply a change theory that you think best fits your implementation plan. You may use any change theory in chapter 15 of the Melnyk textbook or Lewin’s Change Theory, which is located in Weeks 8-9 of the course. Do not just describe the theory, but also apply it to your proposed change. Check once more to make sure you have addressed every area in the grading rubric, including the answer to your PICOT question.
** Please note that the Evidence Based Practice Model is NOT a change theory but rather the model you have been following throughout this quarter as you developed your evidence- based change to practice.
You will create a 14-18 slide PowerPoint that includes your PICOT question, background, significance, search, evidence, and synthesis of the evidence. You will then present your implementation plan using the chosen Change Theory as a guide. Develop the PowerPoint presentation using the following criteria:
1. Develop a 14-18 slide PowerPoint to thoroughly describe the EBP process that you have completed this quarter and how your PICOT question has been answered. You will also add the implementation/action plan where you will explain in detail what your proposed change to practice will be and how you will implement and evaluate it.
2. The title slide, reference slides, and any heading slides are NOT included in the 14 slide minimum.
3. Identify the purpose of the presentation in the first slide or two.
4. Provide the PICOT question along with the background and significance.
5. A full description of Stakeholders must be included-see grading rubric.
If you are unfamiliar with the term “Stakeholders” refer to page 536 of your Melnyk textbook.
6. Include a slide for references in APA 7th edition format. There should be a minimum of 6 scholarly references within the five year time frame (webpages are not included in the 6 reference minimum).
7. Slides will contain only brief speaking points. You will type in the notes section below the slides a thorough explanation of EACH slide along with all citations. Avoid wordiness on the slides-keep it simple with just speaking points.
Due to compatibility issues, do not record your comments-use notes section only to explain each slide.
8. You will also submit a Word doc to Turnitin with the notes from each slide. Just copy and paste from your pptx into a word doc-do not worry about formatting correctly in this document, it is just to check the similarity to previous papers. List as Slide 1, then notes, Slide 2, then notes, etc. The similarity percent needs to be below 24%. Do NOT include the references which will elevate the similarity percent.
**Please note that the proposed change to practice cannot be a recommendation for further research. This is an EBP project where you have completed the steps in analyzing and synthesizing the findings from existing research to design a change to practice based on what you found.
It is unacceptable to determine there is no need for a change from current practice.
Submission Process: There are two steps to the submission process:
1. Submit the notes from each slide (except the references) as a Word doc to the Turnitin Link in the assignment area. Turnitin is a web-based software that detects plagiarism. Submit the Word document early to check for similarity index (originality report) which should be below 24%. Just copy and paste from your ppt into a word doc. Do NOT submit the reference slides to Turnitin.
2. The PowerPoint presentation will be submitted to the Assignment Dropbox through the link in the assignment area labeled “PowerPoint Presentation” by the due date listed in the course calendar.
The file must be saved as a PowerPoint (pptx file) to be viewed. Points will be deducted if submitted in any other format including a pdf.
There is no need to resubmit the search tables, Evidence and Synthesis tables, “keeper articles” or Critical Appraisal Tools (CAT) unless you have changed articles since completing the Evidence and Synthesis Tables. Upload any new articles and corresponding Critical Appraisal Tool under Assignments “revised articles”
