· Do you think the exponential change that futurist Leonhard talks about will take place?
Why or why not?
Technology is advancing and changing the way we do business (Gaskell, 2017). I do believe there will be a futurist change as Leonhard talks about. I honestly believe we or the “you” he refers to is center of change. The changes in automobiles, computers, and cell phones over the last twenty years has been amazing. The next twenty years will bring even bigger changes and technological advances.
· What changes do you see ahead in employee voice? Will there be an HRM function as we now know it? How might HRM create value in the world as futurists describe?
Employee voice is required to improve the climate or overall business. Employees are the innovators, helping to open new markets, and working to make things more efficient. They are also the ear linked to the customer (Sharp, 2018). With technology changing, the same voice and employee has at work may blurred with the voice they have in their personal lives (Baczor, & Wong, 2017). For years we have changed the way we communicate. We no longer sit on hold for customer service; they call us back.
I believe the HRM role will adapt to future changes. According to Tobenkin (2019), of the twenty-one HR responsibilities, five will be less likely automated. People performance, the HR business strategy, organizational effectiveness, employee relations, and change management will be the last HR functions to see automation, however it is important for HR practitioners to stay current with technological advancements.
(Tobenkin, 2019)
It is important to focus on the strategies of HR, and just what the day-to-day activities will be (Rao, 2019). In the future HRM professional need high business insight, critical thinking skills, analytical skills, and must practice good judgement (Tobenkin, 2019).
· As an individual and/or as an employee, will you be ready?
I believe I will be ready to adapt with the changes of the future. I do not stay five to seven years ahead of technology, but I do not believe that will be skills needed in the future. Leonhard (2016) states that intuition, ethics, creativity, and emotion will be even more important in the future. I may have not spent my career working the most advanced aircraft, training devices, or even computers. My career has taught me the importance of innovation, continuous processes improvement, and working with people. Those are skills I believe will be useful in the future.
