Preliminary Literature Review
Do foreign individuals identify their study and/or work behaviours in response to changes in PR requirements? What, how and why?
WHAT?
Australia has a trend of providing foreign individuals with an opportunity to permanently stay in the country with an intention to fill work market deficiencies and oversee changing demographic patterns (Blackmore et.al., 2014). International students who are intending to get permanent residency in Australia and planning to build a career in here have got various ways such as Employer sponsored visas, General skilled migration, Post study work visa to achieve the permanent residency. However, in recent years, there have been many changes regarding the requirements for permanent residency. New visas are being introduced whereas the existing visas were closed. For instance, on 16th November, 2019, subclass 489 visa was closed and instead new visas were introduced on the same date called Provisional 491 visa which was a skilled worker regional visa and subclass 494 skilled employer sponsored that required sponsorship from the employer. To meet the condition of subclass 191 PR, it is compulsory for applicants to have held either one of subclass 491 or 494 visa for minimum of 3 years (seekvisa.com.au)
WHY?
Blackmore et.al, 2014 stated that while seeking for the stable future, international students tend to realize that permanent residency is the key. Not only permanent residency comes with secure future but also with healthcare facilities, credit ratings, easy approval on loans, full working rights and much more (seekvisa.com.au). According to AECC Global, 2019, there are many courses that an international student could choose from for better career and especially for permanent residency. Due to which students end up choosing from those particular fields they don’t have any interest on.
HOW?
As per AM22TECH, 2020 a foreign individual can easily get permanent residency if they have 90 points. Also the minimum point to apply for 190 state sponsored visa is 65. To get these points, international students takes certain courses named ‘NAATI’ or professional year that would help them to achieve 5 points each. Moreover, they get devoted to achieve high marks in either IELTS or PTE that would provide them extra points and makes them eligible to apply for Permanent residency ( B;ackmore et.al., 2014).
