Module 2 – Case

Assignment Overview
The module readings describe how priority areas for
outcomes and processes may be operationalized to achieve
a positive public health outcome.
Case Assignment
You are employed by a local health department as manager
of environmental health and safety, and one of your big
cities is facing increased outbreaks of foodborne illnesses:
1. Describe what secondary and primary drivers you would
use to examine and improve food safety.

effectiveness of the improvements you have made to
food safety in the city.

Module 2 – SLP
PLANNING AND ASSESSMENT
The SLP for this course is based on a manufacturing
company of your choice. The facility employs at least 75
workers. You are the Environmental and Occupational
Health and Safety Manager for this company. Your task is to
develop aspects of a health and safety program that
addresses worker injury and illness prevention, as well as
environmental health and safety protection.
The Centers for Diseases Control (CDC) and Prevention has
designed a six-step model for conducting program
evaluation. It is described in Healey, B.J. Walker, K.T.
(2009), on page 271 and Figure 15.1. Apply the CDC model
to this scenario and identify the six steps you would follow
for evaluating the effectiveness of the injury and illness
prevention program in the occupational setting you chose for
your SLP. For each step, explain the process and illustrate
how you would evaluate your program, with specific
examples.
