1. Attention Material/Credibility Material: 11/14/2019, I was a school employee for the William S. Hart School District during the Saugus High School Shooting overseeing the
emails from the district to the schools, messaging with my students who are in lockdown at the school I work for.
2. Tie to the audience: Later on in life if you have children they will go to a school, and they could be apart of a school tragedy.
3. Thesis and Preview: Schools need a better security presence.
4. Today I’d like to talk to you about first, the need for more security at our schools, second, how you can write/request for more security and safety measures at our schools,
and finally, how your children will benefit from the increase of security and safety measures. 5.

and safety measures at our K-12 schools.

2. Main Point #1 – Schools should be a safe place for the nation’s children to learn and grow, however 11% of our nation’s crimes come from our schools.

Some of our young children and youths bring their experiences, memories, and violent behavior with them to school.
Aggression in American schools manifests itself in attacks on teachers and students, vandalism, and property damage.
Over three million assorted crimes – about 11% of all crimes – occur each year in America’s 85,000 public schools.
Every hour, on school campuses, more than 2,000 students and about 40 teachers are physically attacked.
A school crime is taking place every six seconds.
Each day some 100,000 children take guns to school.
Every hour, on school campuses, nearly 900 teachers are threatened.

1. Main Point #2 – Present Solution that Satisfies Need: This is how you can contact your school district about implementing more security and safety measures at your child’s
school.
2. Description of Solution- Write a letter to the school board.
3. How Solution Satisfies Need- It will tell the school board that there needs to be a change in how we preform safety measures and they will see examples
n how we need more security.
4. How Solution can be Implemented- Write the letter, send it to the school board or bring it to the meeting and discuss what you and other people think.
5. Plan of Action- write to your school board and show them how and why they should expand safety measures, the school board is usually on the side of expanding security
and safety so if you have a good case it will go through into action.
6. Step of Plan:
a. Write the letter.
b. Send it to the school board.
c. Get the board to see that there is a problem.
d. Board implements safety and security measures. Such as more security or more drill practice or mental health services.

1. Main Point #3 – Visualize Results- More school safety benefits everyone, children should not fear going to their place of learning.
2. Describe Expected Results of Action3. Describe Consequences of Inaction- crime rates in schools could increase, we can see more innocent children that are trying to get an education die due to school shootings,
drug overdoses, suicides from bullying.
III. CONCLUSION:

2. Summary- A good chunk of the nation’s crimes happen at our schools but we can prevent some of this from happening.
3. Tie Back to the Audience- What if your child was at the school at a school tragedy such as a shooting? Would you want your child to be safe at school? Write to your school
board about how to make things safer at the school, they will listen, they are elected to make schools a safe place to learn.
4. Concluding Remarks- Schools are made to produce the future of this country, and we need to protect our future the best we can. Please, write to your school board, share
the concerns and stats of school tragedies. Tell them what they can fix, we need to protect our youth as one community; show them that we want them to succeed.
