Develop a multi-paragraph essay that analyzes Chimamanda Adichie’s letter “Dear Ijeawele, or a Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions” (2018) and respond to one of the following prompts.
1. Review Adichie’s suggestions and identify the ones that are most significant to you. Using her letter as your central source, expand upon its suggestions, concepts, and beliefs by developing your own commentary. Explain why her suggestions are meaningful and how they can benefit a new parent.
2. Elaborate upon Adichie’s suggestions by providing three additional suggestions that you believe are necessary to create a more inclusive society. Use quotes from her letter to ground your essay as you show how the suggestions you develop bolster the spirit of her manifesto.
3. Consider how Adichie’s suggestions would change if Ijeawele had given birth to a boy rather than a girl. Develop an essay that includes suggestions for raising a boy to be a feminist.
4. Design your own prompt or focus and seek my approval.
Each prompt requires supporting citations from Adichie’s letter. Essays should include 3-6 quotes. Jamaica Kincaid’s short story “Girl” and Adichie’s speech “We Should All Be Feminist’s” may also be cited along with other research you compile. Rely upon the video lecture and corresponding template to organize and develop body paragraphs. The final essay should be 750-1000 words written in MLA Format with Times New Roman 12-point font, double spaced lines, and a Works Cited page that lists “Dear Ijeawele or a Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions” and other cited material.
