Why might the U.S. government, which funds Social Security, Medicare, and unemployment insurance programs by taxing wages, desire to find a way to reduce self-employment and inhibit the growth of the gig economy?
I think the U.S Government desire to reduce self-employment due to the low taxes that they pay due to businesses shaving off about 20% of their taxable. By working

hours and making less income from the normal employments, they would automatically pay less to the government.
Which the government use those funds that they are losing from the self-employments for other things until they would have to pay it back to you.
Do you see the growth of the gig economy as a positive or negative trend in the economy?
I think that the growth of the gig economy is a positive, due to people having several options to be employed. Yes, the pay less in taxes but the government should better themselves on how to spend the taxed money they collect from the both employed and self-employed.

The U. S. Government may wish to find a way to reduce self-employment and prevent the growth of the gig economy because gig economy workers are more likely to report less income than they make or pay less self-employment tax than is required.
A gig economy is a free market system that allows workers to perform jobs on a short-term basis for companies or their employer. The term “gig” is a slang word for a job that lasts a specific amount of time; it is a temporary job. The employee often works on a specific project for a company, either as an independent contractor or a freelancer.
It is easy to join the gig economy when looking for temporary, freelance, or contractor work. A gig employee has the option and freedom to be his or her own boss. Gig employees are not required to punch a clock or work specific hours. They choose the type of work they do and the companies they want to work for.
However, there are disadvantages to this type of work that may not work well for the gig employee. This type of work will not be suitable for people who have no discipline or money saving skills. The assignments are not guaranteed, there are no benefits such as medical, dental, retirement or 401k plans through the employer. If the gig employee does not work, he or she does not get paid.
The growth of the gig economy seems to be a positive trend in the economy. The positive side of this type economy may work well for the single parent who cannot afford childcare. It can also be beneficial for the person who has no transportation to travel to and from work daily. Gig workers have the option to work for several companies and he or she can work on more than one job or assignment. People with limited or no skills can do several temporary jobs to gain work experience. This type work allows at least one parent to be at home when children return from school as well as get chores done so they can spend more time with the family.

A. Why might the U.S. government, which funds Social Security, Medicare, and unemployment insurance programs by taxing wages, desire to find a way to reduce self-employment and inhibit the growth of the gig economy?
Gig economy is people who are the self-employed, people that do work on the side, and jobs that have contracts. Gig economy is a free market system in which temporary positions are common and organizations hire independent workers for short term commitments. I think that their trying to reduce gig economy because the income is not consistent. These companies can also choose not to pay their taxes on a regular basis. The government wants people to have permanent jobs.
B. Do you see the growth of the gig economy as a positive or negative trend in the economy? Explain.
Gig economy is a positive thing. It reduces the responsibility of the government to create jobs. The government can spend time on more important things. With the self-employment, they hire people to help with different duties. This helps the economy and removes people from unemployment.

A gig is usually referring to a self-employed job that usually pays out of pocket or likely known as “under the table” that are temporary. Usually, a common self-employed “gig” that would fit in this criteria would be independent contracting. That means contracting ones self for any job that is available. One reason the govt would want to reduce self-employment is because they can pick and choose to pay taxes, whereas the average employee that works for a company gets the taxes automatically taken from their paychecks.
b. Do you see the growth of the gig economy as a positive or negative trend in the economy? Explain.
Honestly, I think that it would be an amazing thing. For citizens to eventually learn how to run their own financials and profit from it without needing assistance from the govt 100% would be amazing. To create a community where they are sustaining their own financial situations, maybe also learning how to trade with each other certain economical trades wouldn’t hurt anyone either.
