Assignment: Meticulously analyze the aesthetic choices of a mass-mediated advertisement. In this case, you may choose a still for a product, service, or a film that is being promoted by the entertainment industry (an active link to your chosen still must be included). Choosing the right visual may take longer than writing the actual paper, since the visual you choose must display as many aesthetic elements as possible from Chapters 1 – 8. This would include: Light & Shadow, Color, Space/Composition & Vectors. Therefore, do not choose a still that does not display colors or shadows. The paper must be written using your own brain cells and the textbook. This is not a research assignment. Therefore, you should not be incorporating and “outside knowledge” in youranalysis.
Plagiarism: Plagiarism is the intended or unintended use of someone else’s language and/or ideaswithout revealing the source of that material; leading the reader to believe that the work is original. The minimum penalty for plagiarism (even if it only occurs in a part or some parts of your paper) is a zero and possible course failure. I must also follow College rules and report any instances of plagiarism to the college administration. Please do not put you, or me in that position.
Content of Paper:
– An opening paragraph introducing and defending your choice of the visual for analysis. Include: why is it visually interesting and how it fulfills the assignment requirements.
– A body consisting of a series of paragraphs that systematically covers each aesthetic topic area (you may insert subheadings of: Light & Shadow, Color, Space/Composition).
– A concluding paragraph that clearly summarizes your impression of the visual based on your analysis. You must include both its strengths and weaknesses; and what message it is sending to the viewer.
