Assessment for Unit 1: History of Counselling
When addressing the task, write in a logical and structured way.
Use of headings is permitted.
Include reference list.
Please adhere to the word guide.
Part 1: In 700 words (plus or minus 10%), identify the key theories that underpin the development and emergence of counselling, and relate these theoretical models to practice application within child and adolescent counselling.
Guidance
· ❖ Identify and briefly outline the key theories.
· ❖ State how they have influenced counselling and make sure that you support these points with clear and referenced evidence.
· ❖ Make clear connections between the theoretical models you have identified and their usefulness within child and adolescent counselling (you can link this to core skills as well).
Part 2: In 700 words (plus or minus 10%), explain how child and adolescent counselling is similar and different to conventional counselling (adult). Your response should include identification of the similarities and differences in the aims and objectives (for example, think about goal-centred counselling in this context).
Guidance
The way you approach this part of the assessment may depend on your current counselling experience and which field you work in – for example, if you work within bereavement counselling then make the comparison between child and adolescent counselling and bereavement counselling. If you are not working as a counsellor then you will need to look at the core skills and draw on your knowledge from previous study to make comparisons
