Food Control Our Behaviors
Today, food and behavior are one of the biggest issues in the world. So, there is a clear connecting chain between what we are eating and the way we behave. In evidence, we are all noticed that your child is a sugar-high after party. So, we knew that at some level that food could influence our behavior. There is an experiment that has done about the effects of food on behavior that’s have done by the TV series, The Food Hospital. The results showed, that the food that loaded with, artificial coloring and sugar, and other additives have enough power to change your lovely child to a badly behaved, physically aggressive youngster. This essay would awareness us about what we are eating and the way we are behaving towered to the food and how food changes our behavior.
Before we go at details on what we are eating changing our behaviors, let’s talk about what we are eating today and how we behave toward food. So, more than half of the world are eating and following the western diet; which are high intakes of red meats, pre-packaged foods, high-fat dairy products, and sugary drinks. This type of diet causes a lot of health problems. In one of Michael Pollan articles, Escape from the Western Diet, he explained and awareness us the dangers of the western diet. According to Pollan “invariably suffer from high rates of the so-called Western diseases: obesity, Type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer.” Also, there is an indirect problem, which is we become addicted to meats! Today, meat, sugar, and fat behave most likely addictive drugs in your body. I know there will be a lot of people if not all of you going to argue that. But, think from another way, have you ever asked why so many people eat meats? Basically, addicted is someone who depends on a particular substance, and unable to stop taking it or eating it in this case.
Additionally, when I moved to the United States for the university, my eating habits have changed and I get affected by the western diet and that because I don’t have time to cook due to work and study. So, the advertisements of the fast food companies have played an imported role in my life, and targeting me and similar type of people. Also, Michael Moss in his article, The Extraordinary Science of Addictive Junk Food, he explained how the advertisements changed our eating habits. He states that “15 people with varied skills, from design to food science to advertising, to create something” and that how we become addictive to fast food and junk food. Today, the advertisement has a big impact on how we behave toward food. The advertisements are one of the main reasons that made us addictive to some type of foods. Because the aim of the advertiser is to hide the truth, especially when it comes to the food and that’s what they studied in college and trained very well to play on your brain to buy their product. So, the advertisement created a very good image of this type of food to stick in your brain forever as it a portion of good food. But, in reality, behind the scenes, it’s the worst food ever you can get, such as McDonald’s. So, you always think it’s good and you keep ordering it and eating it until your rich to some addictive level.
However, we’re all agree that our brain works 24/7. This means your brain needs power, energy to keep working and that comes from the food. So, if you eat well (health food) your brain functions will be in the best and give the right decisions, movements, and you will be in a good mood. But, if you eat unhealthy food, your brain functions will be in the worst and gives the wrong decisions, movements, and you were not in a good mood. Basically, our brain and body work as a car. If you fill your car with the premium gas your car will be good on the road and the engine will be in the best function.
Many children are accidentally being set up as a failure and in terrible health condition by their parents. Moms and dads are always doing the best and possible for their children, and part of that can be the feeding them with modern food which is junk food that won’t set them different from their friends. That’s what I saw when I was in high school and helping in elementary school during lunch time. It’s sad. But, by doing that, the kids are being destroyed in ways that make it difficult for him to perform and complete the school work successfully. In worst, that has affected his ability to learn and his behavior.
Wake up call, for all the parents to feed your children and yourself with the healthy food that makes you and your children succeed in the work and in life. Pollan sat up three simple rules, which is “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.” By following those three rules you will get over the addictive food and any health problems from the food. You have the full responsibility for yourself and your children health Also, Radley Balko indicated in his article that people should be responsible for their own food. The government and health insurance companies have no involvement in what we are eating how much we are an exercise because this is an individual choice.

There is a link of a Mad Men – The Carousel presentation. After you watching the video respond to two of your peers. In your response, analyze how effective the specific image/line identified by your peer is during the presentation and how it weaves together with other rhetorical devices to achieve Don’s goals.
Response Statement should each be at least 150 words.
Peer Statements:
Peer 1:
“One rhetorical mode that Don Draper uses in the Mad Men video is pathos. Draper often appeals to the audiences emotions and sympathies. He says “this device is not a space ship, it’s a time machine. Goes backward and forward, it takes us to a place where we ache to go again”. While saying this he shows pictures of him and his children playing and having a good time. He appealed to my emotions, not only with his words but with the pictures he used. He reached my emotions in me wanting to look at pictures and wishing to return to a certain place or time of happiness.”
Peer 2:
“In this particular scene from Mad Men, Don Draper uses pathos in his presentation. More specifically, when he includes pictures of his own family that would appear in the Carousel product he is pitching. Preluding to the slide show, Draper mentions “the public can be engaged in a level beyond flash if they have a sentimental bond with the product.” He focuses his presentation around the feeling of nostalgia – something that everyone can relate to – something that the people that Draper is trying to reach, will make them feel more connected to the product. Major life milestone pictures that Draper shares are personal events. Marriage, creating a family, love, are all portrayed in the photos. Not only does the audience feel more connected to Draper who is sharing intimate details of his life, but because they also have those moments in their own lives, the product is of more interest to them.”
