Many companies use news releases to share information, announce new products or initiatives, or advertise special events. Consider how news releases might be used in your field. See page 390 for brainstorming ideas. Then, write a news release.
News Release Requirements:
· Slug: Include a compelling and descriptive headline
· Lead: Start with the most important information
· Body: Provide supporting information
· Length is approximately one half page (one page maximum)
There are several versions of an often misattributed quote circulating in the writing world. “If I had more time, I would have written a shorter letter.” While the required length of this assignment is short, the amount of time put into writing does not necessarily correlate with the length of the text. Summarizing for brief assignments requires you to identify the most important points and illustrate them as precisely and concisely as possible. Please keep this in mind as you write your News Release.
