For each style covered in the unit, find at least one example of an interior component used in a modern way. Selections may include entire rooms or specific items within an “interior” (furniture, fabric, use of space, etc.…). It must be interior not exterior! In this entry, please include styles from JAPANESE, Bauhaus , DE STIJL, and International Style . This will be 3 separate pages, 1 for each style listed. (at least 200 words for each page)

ART NOUVEAU
Living Space
Art Nouveau living rooms are quite beauitful and a lot of
detailing goes into them. The swooped ceiling is a signature
touch. The high ceilings allow for the room to feel more
open. That is where historical and modern versions connect.
The ceilings being white and and the walls having dark
wood walls.
While the space is a larger gathering space there is a little
bit of furniture in each one. The sleek lounge chases and
round wood tables. The modern version of the room has
detailing of arches on the wood walls this connects to the
historical version it’s almost exact. The historical room is
timeless and exquisite.

THE BUNGALOW
Living Room
A bungalow style living room was a bit more rustic looking.
Consisting of the dark woods and wood base boards. The
rustic pendant light above the dining room table was the
typical pendant you would see in this type of living room.
The modern and historical one connect not in your typical
way the modern version of the living room shows light
throughout the space, multiple pendants, and a light wood
flooring. The modern dining table is a lighter wood but
connects to the historical one by having the same length
and shape as well as having the same amount of dining
chairs.

New Furniture Chair
Gustav Stickley designed this chair and the modern
version of it is almost the exact replica. The modern
one is a suede material while the historical one is a
brown leather. The wood of each chair match each-
other perfectly. The modern chair has a large
cushion allowing for comfort, while the historical
version allows for comfort it is slight thinner. The
modern one looks a little bit of mid century
modern. The wide seating with thinner legs and a
thinner side bar. The modern one represents the
historical one in a great way. This chair from the
beginning has continued to change in each era but
slightly keeping the original look.

Cesca Chair
Marcel Breuer’s Cesca Chair Was made during the
Bauhaus era. This chair was named after his
daughter Francesca. This share was interesting
because it did not have the standard for legs, but
rather had two front legs that went all the way
down into a rectangular shape that made it stable
enough to hold up the chair taking place of the
back legs. This year looks like it’s made with steel
and wood, with patterns in the back. The modern
version of the Cesca chair Has the same format as
Breuer’s chair, but has stained wood with green
cushioning and does not included arm rest. Out of
both of the chairs, I personally liked the
Modernized version a lot better. The styling of the
modern chair would cater to the person’s body and
make them more comfortable for seating.

Barcelona Chair
Classical Modern
The Barcelona Chair was created by
Mies van der Rohe. This hair was
inspired by the Ancient Roman sella
curulis, which is evident in the leg work
in his design. In Rohe’s version, the chair
had stainless steel legs with deep chair
cushioning. In the modern design, the
legs are made of wood and the
inter-woven cushions are not 3d, but are
2d in the pattern on the chair.
Personally, I love the classical chair a lot
because this chair fits a lot of aesthetics
and is really cohesive to many designs.
International Style
Red and Blue Chair
The Red and Blue chair was created
by Gerrit Rietveld. This chair had
more of an abstract and geometric
approach when it was designed.It
included wood at 90 degrees that
never touches and use the primary
colors as his palette of choice. The
modern approach to Rietveld’s
design is the same but has a muted
turquoise color. I think that the
classical version of the chair is great
and would be used in a minimalistic
design and the modern version
could be used in a Lot more design
aesthetics. I would like the modern
version better, strictly because of its
color palette. De Stijl Style

Classical Block Screen
The Block screen was found in the Rue De Lota
Apartment. This was a screen made with 25 rectangular
lacquers. I love this design because this could still blend
in with Modern housing aesthetics for each room.
Modern Block Screen
The modern block screen is more transparent in spacing and
uses wood. This would be a good method to use when
designing more contemporary housing or room that
included natural color palettes. Art Deco Style
End of Art Deco: Waterfall
Furniture
After the Great Depression, the
waterfall furniture began to BOOM!!!
The classical furniture here is a
waterfall patterned dresser that
includes gold handle designs. The
modern version includes a high
detail waterfall design with black
stained/painted wood that really
brings out the wood design. I
personally like the modern version
better because of the clashing colors
and the high intense waterfall
design.
