To begin with I personally do not any suggestions in regards to the course needing improvements. The material that I learned from this course was very helpful. Since being a student at AMU I have written many papers and this class shed light on things that I was still having problems with. The class engagement was great. I learned new tip and techniques from my peers which is always good.
Another thing that I like about the class that was the structure. Each week we incorporated a new element in which aided us writing our research paper. Week four which was “APA Style Rules” was very informative to me. It was broken down exactly how it was supposed to look and the discussion with class added to the content. Prior to I would say that papers that I had submitted in past were not properly APA formatted. Reflecting, I believe some of them were a mix of APA and MLA.
According to AMU’s student handbook plagiarism is the adoption or incorporation of another’s ideas without proper attribution of the source. It is more simply defined as taking the writings of another person or people and representing them to be one’s own. (APUS 2022). The plagiarism checker is used to ensure that students are properly citing their work rather copying someone else work and not giving the credit. Since being a student at AMU this was time using “Turnitin”. Turnitin has been integrated into the Assignments tool in all APUS classrooms. This allows all uploaded assignments to be automatically routed through the Turnitin repository. Turnitin’s Originality Check helps faculty identify possible instances of plagiarism by checking students’ writing for citation mistakes or inappropriate copying. (APUS 2022) I will say the first paper I submitted the percentage was fairly high. Things that I noticed was my sources were considered to be copied and direct quotes from articles that I used. My professor at the time didn’t give any guidance of what high percentage was or what was acceptable. I had to google what the numbers meant. Since then if a teacher did not express what the number would I would always attempt to be under 25 percent. Some classes the professor did tell us and I believe the highest one allow was nothing over 30 percent would be accepted.
