Klein, Wirth, and Linas (2004) recognized six ways to support play in preschool classrooms:
· Focus on the process (rather than the goal of play).
· Elaborate and build on children’s play or interests.
· Reflect the emotions children express in their play and actions.
· Define the problem. Help children think about alternatives.
· Provide varied materials to encourage exploration and play.
· Provide open-ended materials for play (pp. 30-31).
Have you seen examples of these during your visits to preschool classrooms? Give examples.
