Design thinking notes
Empathize – understand the problem, need. Know what people really care about, know the problem and what your client real wants. Do the process with people with the same problem. Define – analyze, interpret, plan. Underline the verbs or Activities the people mentioned (Ex: going out for a walk, with friends, going grocery shopping, etc.). Formulate a problem statement: “Some elderlies are afraid to be lonely, they want to stay connected” Ideate – imagine, research, ponder.
Focus only on the problem statement. Come up with ideas that solve the problem. The point is not to get a perfect idea, but rather to come up with many ideas e.g. unique virtual reality experiences, elderly friendly (?) Hover boards, or a modified pushcart. Sketch up your best ideas and show them to the people you’re trying to help so you can get their feedback. Prototype – when solution is brought to life, the part where we apply creativity to create.
Take a moment to reflect on what you have learned from your conversations about the different ideas. Ask yourself: how does your idea fit in the context of people’s actual lives? Your solution could be a combination of a new idea and what is already being used – then, connect the dots. Sketch up your final solution and build a real prototype that’s just good enough to be tested. Test – review and revise, utilize feedback; this step is important as it could ensure that all client needs are met, and exceed end product.
Test your prototype with actual users/ consumers. A versatile and innovative technique or a tool that is used for capturing the ideas for boosting the creativity, productivity, and memory of millions of people all over the world is known as mind mapping. Thus, mind mapping helps in the generation of better ideas, analyzes them effectively, and makes it easier to recall and structure the information. Mind maps are used for mapping out the fundamental concept from the major problem. They are widely used during the visualization of ideas by an individual or during the session of brainstorming. They can be either drawn or noted by hand or mind mapping software can be utilized for storing and organizing large data and information. The major benefit of mind mapping is the enhancement of the capability of thinking creatively and enabling one to become more efficient and productive as it is considered to be the appropriate tool for the generation of ideas along with the identification of the relationships in between several information. It helps to improve the retention and memory of the individual. It helps to sort the thoughts and allows an individual in the generation of unique ideas in lesser time. It further helps an individual in the categorization and organization of ideas and thoughts. Overall, it provides considerable assistance in opening the mind and enhance creativity and productivity. What is the nominal group technique in your own words, explain the nominal group technique. A group process that involves the identification of the problem, generation of the solution, and finalizing the decision is termed as Nominal Group Technique or NGT in short. For making the decision opinion of every individual of the group is taken into account. However, to generate the final solution, the ranking of the solution is done where every member of the group explains their solution. Based on the effective explanation of the solution the best decision is put forth. Hence, the decision-making groups are effectively enhanced by the utilization of the NGT in one or even more dimensions. It also balances the participation of each member of the group with the provision of more unique ideas and the production.
