Mary Wollstonecraft’s Vindication of the Rights of Women is the foundation of our course as her ideas remain pertinent and still unrealized to some degree despite over 200 years passing. The core of her feminist thinking lies in the reform of women’s education and social perceptions. After you read the selection from her “Vindication of the Rights of Woman,” please describe the way women were socialized and viewed at her time, and the changes Wollstonecraft proposed to how women should see themselves as individuals and life partners if they choose to marry. What, according to her, should be the goal of women’s education, and how would it change women’s position in society?
